Saalachstraße / Rottweg - Plan

A new spacious residential development emerges on the outskirts of Salzburg, closed to commercial buildings, among predominantly detached housing developments as well as hitherto still agricultural areas. What contribution can landscape architecture provide in such a place? The open space of this housing complex is designed as a striking landscape statement: a dense irregular arrangement of trees composed of different species (deciduous ones and conifers) create a bordure of unique characteristic with a high atmospheric quality, offering a particular enrichment on the periphery of Salzburg. Groups of a wide tree-palette (oak, maple, flowering ash, hornbeam, wild pear, pine…) are planted on the edges of the plot, which will create a grove-like characteristic by time - arranged loosely on the west, narrower with columnar examples on the east side providing a visual protection towards the neighboring commercial buildings. In the area under the high-voltage line you find groups of ornamental cherries, offering a special place in a rather unfavorable situation. A centre piece is the triangular lawn in the north part with wooden decks, each with a snake-maple.
